CHANEL Major Patron of the Grand Palais

In the same way as the patronage of the Palais Galliera and the Paris National Opera, the support of the Grand Palais is part of CHANEL's desire to promote the cultural and artistic influence of Paris and its institutions.

Exclusive and historic patron of the Grand Palais since 2018, CHANEL is renewing its commitment to the GrandPalaisRmn for a period of five years as a patron of the artistic and cultural programming of the Grand Palais via the GrandPalaisRmn endowment fund. CHANEL thus becomes a Grand Patron of the Grand Palais.

The Grand Palais and CHANEL have a long-standing conversation. In 2005, the Nef became the stage for the Maison’s fashion shows. A playground for Karl Lagerfeld’s imagination, where the most fascinating stagings and sets have followed one another. From monumental sculptures of the CHANEL jacket or the lion dear to Gabrielle Chanel, to a reproduction of a supermarket or a rocket, each fashion show creates an event and resonates throughout the world.

“The Grand Palais is a superb dream-making machine. In our eyes, it is one of the places that embodies the House of Chanel, just like Rue Cambon or Place Vendôme, says Bruno Pavlovsky, President of Fashion Activities at CHANEL. We are proud to continue our commitment to this major cultural player in the capital. The transformation of the Grand Palais will have an impact on the influence of Paris and France. Like the Eiffel Tower, the Grand Palais will last for centuries.”

In 2018, CHANEL committed to supporting the restoration and development project of the Grand Palais, an ambitious project aimed at preserving this architectural gem and restoring it to the genius and beauty of its original design. Today, CHANEL is strengthening its commitment with a new sponsorship of thirty million euros to support the artistic and cultural programming of the GrandPalaisRmn for 2024-2028.

“A century after its construction for the 1900 Universal Exhibition, the Grand Palais is preparing to regain its former splendor thanks to a restoration carried out by thousands of skilled workers and craftsmen,” explains Didier Fusillier, President of the GrandPalaisRmn. Under its reseda green metal frame and its walls painted a delicate cream white, the Grand Palais, now adapted to the current challenges of sobriety and operation, is preparing to open a new chapter in its history. An innovative program will be launched, embracing fine arts, contemporary art, celebration and live performance. We are delighted that CHANEL is supporting this artistic movement, in line with its investment in the restoration of the building.”

In April 2024, a site visit was held by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron and the inauguration of the entrance to the Nave, renamed “Gabrielle Chanel”, in homage to the founder of the House. In October 2024, CHANEL will make its grand return to the Grand Palais with its Spring-Summer 2025 Ready-to-Wear show, before the art fairs and exhibitions starting at the end of 2024. In June 2025, the public will be able to discover new spaces within the Grand Palais itself, providing access to the exhibitions in particular but also possibly to the events in the Nave.

To this end, this central space will adapt to the diversity of events organized thanks to a monumental curtain designed by Studio MTX, the decoration department of the Montex embroidery workshop. This curtain will be embroidered during participatory workshops open to all that will be held at the Galerie du 19M Paris/Aubervilliers starting in November, with the help of other resident art houses at the 19M. le19M is a place of heritage and creation that works to transmit the artistic crafts of fashion and decoration. Inaugurated in January 2022, it is the culmination of a policy of support for the preservation of know-how begun in the 1980s by the House of CHANEL.

In the same way as the patronage of the Palais Galliera and the Paris National Opera, the support of the Grand Palais is part of CHANEL’s desire to promote the cultural and artistic influence of Paris and its institutions.
