True to her commitment to celebrating the work of women artists, Maria Grazia Chiuri pursues a long-term dialogue with the great names of feminist art history, along with younger generations.
In 2022, on the occasion of the retrospective exhibition devoted to Faith Ringgold at the New Museum in New York, the Dior Creative Director discovered thoroughly and exhaustively the œuvre of the emblematic artist, whose powerful world she was already familiar with. The foundations of an inventive exchange between the two women were thus laid down and built upon until the African-American artist’s passing in April 2024.
In parallel with the Dior Fall 2024 show, presented last April at the Brooklyn Museum in New York, a preview of Faith Ringgold’s reinterpretation* of the iconic Lady Dior, inspired by her 2004 piece Mama Can Sing, was revealed. The installation designed for the Dior autumn-winter 2024-2025 haute couture défilé, envisioned in 2023 in collaboration with Faith Ringgold – and the Chanakya Ateliers and the Chanakya School of Craft – perpetuates these unique connections and affinities, bringing together couture and culture, at the convergence of art and savoir-faire.
